So I got addicted to this new Chinovela called 裸婚时代 LuoHunShiDai or Naked Wedding. My Chinese friend recommended it to me during my finals week, since it is currently popular. I, for one, couldn't just ditch my exams and watch the Chinovela so I had to wait until it was over to watch it. You know me, I can't help but finish something once started. Unlike WoJu, it only took me 2 weeks to finish this 30 episode Chinovela. I vowed not to watch it repeatedly and just study the words AFTER watching the whole thing... so that I can get more affected with the story -like I plan to cry! l!OL
I started watching last June 30, 2011. The Chinovela probably ended around that time, because i reckon seeing some Weibos mentioning LuoHunShiDai. I didn't bother to read them though, I don't want to spoil it.
Anyway, here is the "trailer" (slash MTV Video) of the said Chinovela.
As you can see from the video, the Chinovela is starred by 文章 WenZhang, a very popular Chinese Actor. He played 小贝 XiaoBei in WoJu. I have admired his acting skills and his charm until now. He just impresses me in all his works. WenZhang is the only famous actor in the Chinovela. (Who cares though, he nailed it!)
So the story started with scenes showing how much in love 刘易阳 LiuYiYang and 童佳倩 TongJiaQian are. They have been in love for 8 years, from high school to life after college. It was a perfect relationship except that JiaQian's mom is against it because YiYang's can't afford to provide JiaQian a comfortable life. The couple have always been hiding from JiaQian's mom and would always find ways to be together... until JiaQian got pregnant and couldn't hide it from anyone anymore. As a couple in love, they were excited about the baby, but JiaQian's mom still wasn't. She tried talking JiaQian out of it, kept her Chinese ID and talked about aborting her grandchild just so JiaQian won't be able to marry YiYang and have a child with him. In the end, the young couple's love prevailed. They immediately got married after JiaQian's mom's "blessing" (because she was still against it) and JiaQian moved in to YiYang's family.
JiaQian came from a well off family, so it was hard for her to adjust to YiYang's family especially that they are living with YiYang's grandmother (i.e. VERY conservative). YiYang's mom and grandma gave her a hard time confiscating her make up kit and high heels just because it is "bad" for her pregnancy. They'd also say something about her spending habits whenever she goes shopping. Perhaps JiaQian is a shopaholic and is already married to their son/grandson, but it annoys me seeing them count money in front of her. Like JiaQian's mom being rude and mean to YiYang, YiYang's mom has been likewise.
It has been a tough marriage, and it got tougher when YiYang got arrested for drag racing. He doesn't gamble, but he needed the money to pay for JiaQian's hospital bills. That incident caused both sides of the family to fight over their small annoyances. JiaQian's mom complained that YiYang's parents didn't educate him enough, JiaQian complained about the in laws being too conservative, YiYang's mom complained about JiaQian's spending habits (which led YiYang to be in need of money and gamble), etc. JiaQian gave birth without YiYang beside her, and her relationship with YiYang didn't get any better.
YiYang lost his job and has used up all his savings. JiaQian, as his wife, got so worried and asked her dad to help YiYang land a job in their office. YiYang just couldn't accept it because it wasn't his field. He's not qualified at all. To make him accept the job offer, JiaQian deceived YiYang saying she doesn't have enough breast milk anymore and they need to buy lots of formula milk for their baby. Having no choice, YiYang promised JiaQian that he's take the job offer... until he found out that JiaQian deceived him. They filed a divorce after.
YiYang then was able to accept this offer by his office mate who was madly in love with him. Together with YiYang's best friend, they opened their own advertising firm, and from there, YiYang was able to develop his career and make money out of it. It was very civil for both YiYang and JiaQian (although it was obvious that they still have feelings for each other), but both their families are forcing them to get back together -especially JiaQian's mom. They are worried about the kid, and society has double standards for single moms like JiaQian. JiaQian couldn't care less and just let her mom convince her to remarry again... until she had a set up blind date with this old high school classmate who crushes her. It was "fate" as they say, so the guy, 杜毅 DuYi started courting JiaQian. JiaQian didn't really want to give in to the pressure until she realized that she needs a man to take care of the family. JiaQian accepted his proposal and the rest became unclear.
The last part was about YiYang trying to chase them before they get married in court (they don't have church wedding in China). It wasn't clear if JiaQian and DuYi already said their vows because the final scene only showed YiYang sitting on the floor heart broken and JiaQian finally appeared sitting beside him. They both looked at each other and laughed. That was THE end.
That's basically it... but it is really worth watching. I CRIED FIVE FRIGGIN TIMES! WenZhang really gets me. He's just an amazing actor.
There are loads of other story lines in the Chinovela but they're not worth mentioning anymore. I'd just like to acknowledge how gwapo DuYi is. I'd definitely choose him over LiuYiYang if I were only to chose between their looks. Honestly. I wonder why he hasn't got famous in China. He's really go far with his looks!
P.S. I'm buying its original DVD next week! Gotta stock up my DVD collection so that I'd have enough to watch in Manila!
